Remarks.
Cosmopelma dentatum
was described by
Fischel (1927)
based on a male specimen from
Venezuela
.
Raven (1986)
suggested that this species, whose
type
is lost, should be excluded from the genus based on the absence of a clypeus and the different abdominal pattern.
Fischel (1927)
stated that the described specimen had all characteristics found in
Cosmopelma
, except for the presence of teeth on the claws. However, other characters in the original description do not correspond to what we see in
Cosmopelma
, such as the uniform dark brown color, the labium being longer than wide and indented forward, and the recurved fovea. Furthermore, there was no mention of the distinctive spiky cuspules.
Thus, it is very likely that the lost
type
did not belong to
Cosmopelma
. The characters and the figures in
Fischel (1927)
suggest that the specimen could potentially belong to the cyrtaucheniid genus
Fufius
Simon, 1888
. Therefore, this species is hereby considered as
nomen dubium
in
Fufius
.
