Taxonomy.
Both sexes were described by
Lesne (1899)
from specimens collected in
Myanmar
. The species was redescribed and illustrated by
Rai (1967)
from specimens collected in the north-eastern Indian states of Assam and Uttarakhand. Photographs are included by

Zhang

. (2022)
. The species can be distinguished from the other Oriental species of
Melalgus
by the lack of lateral carinae on the elytra.
