Trifolium uniflorum
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
2
: 771. 1753
.
"Habitat in Creta." RCN: 5671.
Lectotype
(Jafri in Jafri & El-Gadi,
Fl. Libya
86: 227. 1980):
Hasselquist
, Herb. Linn. No. 930.50 (
LINN
)
.
Current name:
Trifolium uniflorum
L.
(
Fabaceae
:
Faboideae
).
Note:
Trifolium uniflorum L.
,
Cent. I Pl.
: 24. 1755 ("Habitat in Constantinopoli, inque Syria, Arabia, Judaea. Hasselquist.") may appear to be a later homonym of
T. uniflorum
L. (1753)
, and hence illegitimate, because the cited illustrations (two Buxbaum figures) for the former name, and the places mentioned in the
"Habitat"
statement, are incorporated into
T. uniflorum sensu
L. (1753)
in the account in
Sp. Pl.
, ed. 2, 2: 1085. 1763. However, the
lectotype
of the 1753 name, LINN 930.50, bears the symbol associated with
Hasselquist's
collections, and also has a label with
"uniflorum"
written on it. Therefore it seems preferable to treat
T. uniflorum
L. (1755)
as a partially modified reuse of
T. uniflorum
(1753)
, rather than as an illegitimate later homonym.
