Diagnosis:
Tentacles short, arising from a swollen tentacular membrane. Tentacular membrane with free edge as thin, clover-like membrane; lower lip reduced but conspicuous. Seven pairs of nephridial papillae from segment 4, posterior to notopodia, first two pairs smaller. Five pairs of ventral shields from segment 3, then ventral groove along remainder body. Notopodia from segment 2; twelve segments with notochaetae. Notochaetae of two lengths, both pinnate. Neuropodia from segment 5, thoracic uncini smaller than abdominal, MF:1:3–4:5–6, Sr straight, SrA absent; AP rounded; AF absent; Bs slightly convex; PP square; PF absent; Oc straight, Cp convex, with three rows of teeth over MF. Abdominal uncini MF:1:1, Sr wide, large and concave; SrA absent, AP rounded, projected forwards; AF absent; Bs slightly convex; PP long, projected dawnwards, finishing rounded; PF absent; Oc long, straight; Cp slightly curved, with two rows of teeth over a long and thin MF. Pygidium rounded; 9 anal papillae.
Staining pattern:
Only ventral shields and nephridial papillae stain deeply; remaining structures do not stain.
Variations:
Complete specimens from the Antilles have 24–41 segments,
7–9mm
long, with thorax
1– 5mm
long and
0.3–1mm
wide; some specimens have 7–8 nephridial papillae from segment 5, 6 or 7, and the pygidium is smooth.
Discussion:
First record since original description. The distribution is expanded with additional specimens from the Lesser Antilles.
