Diagnosis: Branchiae on segments 2–3; eyespots present or absent; lateral lappets absent; ventral shields from segment 2; 17–30 pairs of notopodia, from segment 4; notochaetae with smooth limbation, serrated distally; neuropodia from segment 5; uncini avicular in single rows on segments 5–10, thereafter in double rows, arranged face to face until posterior thorax; then, again in single rows. Remarks: According to Holthe (1986a) , of the three valid species, only one has been described from the Grand Caribbean region: A. bruneocomata ( Ehlers, 1887 ) , from Key West, Florida, in shallow waters to 175m . The two other species are A. gracilis ( Grube, 1860 ) , from the Mediterranean Sea ( 0–80m ); and A. pectinobranchiata Hartmann-Schröder, 1965 , from Chile ( 84–240m ). Two subsequent species, A. ithya and A. harpa were described by Hutchings and Glasby (1990) from Western Australia ( 3–5m ) and Queensland (subtidal), respectively. Finally, Nogueira & Hutchings (2007) described A. carawa from New South Wales , Australia (in shallow water).
