Terebellidae (Polychaeta: Terebellida) from the Grand Caribbean region 2320 Author Londoño-Mesa, Mario H. text Zootaxa 2009 2009-12-22 2320 1 1 93 https://biotaxa.org/Zootaxa/article/view/zootaxa.2320.1.1 journal article 10.11646/zootaxa.2320.1.1 11755334 5316176 Streblosoma Sars, 1872 Sars, 1872:410 .— Hessle, 1917:210 , Text-Fig. 61.— Hutchings & Glasby, 1986:110 ; 1987:222 .— Hartmann-Schröder, 1996:527–528 . Synonyms: Grymaea Malmgren, 1866 (preocuped by a protozoa name); Eugrymaea Verrill, 1900 ; Pseudothelepus Augener, 1918 . Type species: Grymaea bairdi Malmgren, 1866 , by original designation. Diagnosis: Zero to five, commonly three, pairs of branchiae; when present, they begin on segment 2; lateral lappets present or absent; ventral shields from segment 2; nephridial papillae on segments 2–5; 40 or less pairs of notopodia from segment 2; chaetae smooth-tipped, limbate; pairs of neuropodia from segment 5; uncini avicular with button-shaped subrostral process. Remarks: According to Holthe (1986b) , only two species described are valid for the Grand Caribbean region: Streblosoma hartmanae Kritzler, 1971 , from Florida, and S. polybranchia Verrill, 1900 , from Bermuda . Hartman (1956 , 1959 ) and Holthe (1986b) noticed that S. verrilli Treadwell, 1911 , from Florida, is a junior synonym of Thelepus setosus . Nevertheless, based upon the type specimen, this species belongs to Thelepus , being redescribed as Thelepus verrilli ( Treadwell, 1911 ) comb. nov. , (see below). A third species, S. tenhovei sp. nov. , is also described. The original generic description by Sars (1872) stated that the genus may or may not have eyespots, and that uncini were uniserial (MF:1). However, uncini may have more than one tooth present above the main fang.
