Probably extinct (see Flannery, 1995 b ). Discussion: Subgenus Cyromys . Although originally described as a species of Uromys , it was transferred to Melomys ( Ellerman, 1941 ; Rümmler, 1938), placed once more in Uromys ( Tate, 1951 ) , again put in Melomys ( Laurie and Hill, 1954 ) , and currently returned to Uromys ( Flannery and Wickler, 1990 ; Groves and Flannery, 1994 ). Still known only by the holotype . Morphologically closely related to U. rex and U. imperator . Reviewed by Flannery (1995 b ).
