Sponge encrusting the continuous rocky bed or loose stones of the Ibirapuitã River, occurring particularly in shady banks. It occurred in three stations (
Table 1
). The specimens form permanent gemmuliferous crusts that are thin, hard, reticulated, hispid, dark brown in colour, not exceeding a few centimetres, with dark greyish to brownish colouring (
Figure 2E
). Dark gemmules adhered to the substrate, forming small clusters in the peripheral region of the crusts. The spicule set conforms to the original description and redescription of the species (Bonetto and Ezcurra de
Drago, 1967

Brazil
