Oniscus serratus
O.
Fabricius, 1780
[
Amphipoda
:
Acanthonotozomatidae
] and
Oniscus serratus
J. C.
Fabricius, 1787
[
Sphaeromatidae
]
Remarks:
Oniscus serratus
J. C.
Fabricius 1787
is the
type
of
Sphaeroma
Bosc, 1801
by subsequent designation of
Latreille (1810)
fide
ICZN Opinion 1574 (ICZN 1990) and the name was placed on the Official List of Specific Names in Zoology, although the date of Bosc in the Opinion was given
as 1802
but was subsequently shown to be 1801 (
Low 2012
). What has apparently escaped notice is that
Oniscus serratus
J. C.
Fabricius, 1787
is a junior primary homonym of
Oniscus serratus
O.
Fabricius, 1780
(as “
Oniscvs serratvs
”). However, the junior homonym cannot be replaced without an application to the ICZN (ICZN Article 23.9.5.) as the two taxa are currently in different genera as well as different orders within Peracarida as
Acanthonotozoma serratum
(O.
Fabricius, 1780
)
(
Amphipoda
) and
Sphaeroma serratum
(J.C.
Fabricius, 1787
)
(
Isopoda
).
