The latter name, if at a later date determined to represent a valid species but which is currently considered a taxon inquirendum within Sphaeroma , cannot be replaced without an application to the ICZN, as the current name for Spheroma spinosa is in a different genus, as Cymodoce spinosa ( Risso, 1816 ) (IZCN Article 23.9.5).
