It is uncertain whether the single specimen from Wittmannsdorf near Leobersdorf stored in the Geological Survey Austria, Vienna, is really the only specimen left of the original type series (i.e., holotype by monotypy), as was considered by Fischer (1996b : 23). The statement by Fischer (1996b) did not suffice for a valid lectotype designation. Remarks. Junior homonym of Melanopsis rugosa Matheron, 1842. Neubauer et al. (2014c : 17) introduced Melanopsis wolfgangfischeri as replacement name.
