Figures 10 –23 Differential diagnosis. Distinguished from congeners by the patch of well-defined setulae (more than 4) below the prominent postpronotal setae ( Fig. 12 ), relatively tall gena (height 1/2 to 3/4 postpedicel width) and the postpedicel, which is twice the length of the pedicel. Males have a 5 th sternite with specialized chaetotaxy ( Fig. 18 ). The male cercus and surstylus are stout and the distiphallus has two lobes: one strongly hooked and one flattened, with an apical claw-like projection and distal spinules. The female cercus is upturned and has very short blunt setae. The spermatheca is oval with protrusions and an indentation. The ventral receptacle is bent. Description. Male: Overall length (excluding wings): 4.9–7.1 mm . Head : Vibrissa 1.0–1.5 times as long as subvibrissae. Parafacial thin, gena approximately 1/2 to 3/4 width of postpedicel. Postpedicel twice length of pedicel. Arista usually with 7–8, but sometimes up to 11, dorsal branches and 4–5 ventral branches. Thorax: Scutum with faint grey dorsal markings. Postpronotal lobe with 3 setae (1 long, 2 smaller and sub- equal) dorsal to patch or row of well-defined setulae. Line of setulae above fore coxa black anteroventrally, white posterodorsally. Legs: Hind femur with thick, dark brown preapical band. Wing: Membrane light grey, with dark infuscation around crossvein dm–m and at anterior margin. Abdomen : Tergite 2 with 2 posterolateral markings covering 1/3 to almost 1/2 tergal length. Tergites 3–5 with a dark median vitta and distinct lateral triangles. Band on posterior margin of tergites 3–5 moderate, covering 1/6 to 1/4 of tergite 3. Male sternite 5 with patch of closely apposed stout setae posteriorly. FIGURES 10–13. Postgonite bluntly hooked and upturned. Hypandrium with dorsobasal projection. Phallapodeme wide, equal in length to epandrium. Left lobe of distiphallus wide, sclerotized dorsally, membranous ventrally, with claw- like apical projection, distal edge with spinules. Sper- matheca, lateral view. 23. Ventral receptacle, lateral view. Female: Terminalia : Cercus slightly upturned, covered with short, blunt setae dorsally, and sparse microtrichosity ventrally. Sternite 10 Y-shaped anteriorly, reaching midpoint of cercus. Sternite 8 rounded, sclerotized with some thin setulae. Spermatheca oval with protrusions and anterior indentation. Ventral receptacle sharply recurved. Etymology . From the Spanish “abrelatas”, meaning can opener, a reference to the species’ distiphallus, which resembles an old-fashioned can opener. Comment. Although the female of C . abrelatas sp. nov. is described here, only males should be used to identify the species, due to a lack of distinct characters in the female terminalia. Type material.
