Diagnosis. Female: The only species of Culicoides with the following combination of characters: Wing with ill-defined pale markings post-stigmatic, over r-m crossvein and in basal portion of cell m2 and anal cell ( Fig. 8 ); SCo distribution 1–12, third palpal segment conical, bearing a single broad, shallow pit; sclerotized ring at the end of spermathecal duct absent. Male: The only species of Culicoides with the following combination of characters: Wing with ill-defined pale markings post-stigmatic, over r-m crossvein and in basal portion of cell m2 and anal cell; parameres fused for a short distance, ninth sternite with basal membrane moderately spiculated, SCo distribution 1–12. Distribution. Albania , Greece , France (including Corsica ), Italy (including Sardinia and Sicily), Portugal , Spain , Switzerland , Morocco , Algeria , Tunisia , Ukraine and Slovakia .
