H. rosetta
(Swinhoe, 1892)
Plate 3, Fig. 45
Material examined.
PAKISTAN
, [Punjab,]
Rawalpindi,
xi. 1889
(
BMNH
).
Remarks.
This species was recorded in
Pakistan
from Karachi by
Younus & Kamaluddin (2010)
.
Hippotion rosetta
has a similar distribution to
H. boerhaviae
, but has reached more offshore and oceanic islands (e.g. the
Maldives
, Cocos Islands, the Ryukyu Archipelago and
Palau
), although it has yet to be recorded from
New Caledonia
; it has also colonized Hawaii (
Pittaway & Kitching, 2013
). Adults can only be reliably distinguished from
H. boerhaviae
by examination of the male genitalia; the larvae are more distinct.
