Males present, similar in habitus to females, but smaller (~150 µm), and without trophi. The species was found in psammon from the Costa Brava, Côte d’Azur, and Tyrrhenian Sea, at 50 m to 3.5 km off shore, and depths varying from 15 up to 30 m ; June, July, September, October; water temperature 16−21 °C. Previous records are from the Norwegian Sea at Bergen, Norway ( Lie-Pettersen 1905 ), the North Sea: Kieler Bucht, Germany ( Schulz 1936/37 ), Eastern Scheldt, The Netherlands ( De Smet 2005 ), Tyrrhenian Sea, Elba Island ( De Smet 2007 ), and Skagerrak, Sweden ( Willems et al . 2009 ).
