Diagnosis
. Anterior pair of eyes dorsolaterally on widest part of prostomium. Elytra: margin smooth; surface with one or more patches of smooth conical microtubercles near outer lateral margin and usually patch of rough conical microtubercles near elytrophore insertion zone. Dorsal and ventral tentacular cirri and dorsal cirri papillate, swelling subdistally then abruptly tapering to fi liform tip.
Description
. Prostomium bilobed, with distinct cephalic peaks; median antenna with large ceratophore in anterior notch, style papillate, swelling subdistally then abruptly tapering to fi liform tip, and with two pigmented bands distally; lateral antennae with small ceratophores inserted ventrally and with short, papillate styles, swelling subdistally then abruptly tapering to fi liform tip, and with only one distinct pigmented band distally; palps smooth, longer than median antenna and tentacular cirri; anterior pair of eyes dorsolaterally on widest part of prostomium, posterior pair dorsally near hind margin. Parapodia biramous, both rami with single aciculum penetrating epidermis; notopodia with short, rounded presetal and longer, pointed postsetal acicular lobe, neuropodia with subconical presetal acicular lobe with digitiform supra-acicular process and shorter rounded postsetal lobe. Notochaetae stouter than neurochaetae, with distinct rows of spines and blunt tips; neurochaetae with distinct rows of spines only in distal part and bidentate tips with prominent secondary tooth.
Remarks

has often been confused or synonymized with
Malmgreniella glabra
(Malmgren, 1865)
, e.g. in McIntosh (1900), Fauvel (1923) and Chambers and Muir (1997). According to Augener (1928) and our own observations on the type material of
H. longisetis
and
M. glabra
(
lectotype
of
Laenilla glabra
