Panopa carvalhoi is endemic to northern Amazonia, between the upper Orinoco River, in Venezuela , and the Branco River, on both sides, in Brazil (state of Roraima ) ( Fig. 1 ). It is semi-arboreal and diurnal, inhabits primary and secondary, relatively low (canopy 20–25 m high), terra firme forest, where it is found on tree trunks, primarily palms, and on fallen vegetation, at least up to two meters above ground ( O’Shea 1989 —identified as Mabuya sp. nov. ; Rebouças-Spieker & Vanzolini 1990 ; Ávila-Pires 1995 ; Vitt & Zani 1998 ).
