Pangio anguillaris : Kottelat & Lim, 1993 : 214 ( Perak drainages). Remarks. From phylogenetic analyses, Bohlen et al. (2011) proposed that there are three major lineages within the genus Pangio , namely the anguillaris lineage, the shelfordii lineage and the kuhlii -oblonga lineage. The anguillaris -lineage comprise P. anguillaris , P. bitaimac , P. doriae and P. lumbriciformis . They hypothesized that phylogenetic pattern of the genus Pangio was the result of a vicariance event that separated the common ancestor into Bornean and Peninsular Malaysian sub-groups. Since the type locality P. anguillaris is Kapuas in Borneo, specimens recorded in Peninsular Malaysia , the Chao Phraya and the lower Mekong basins may be confused under this name. We recognize that there may be a possible taxonomic revision in the future.
