Etymology:
The new genus is dedicated to Jean Vacelet, who is affectionately known as Janus, in recognition for all his work on Porifera, including calcareous sponges.
Diagnosis:
Calcinea
in which the cormus comprises a typical clathroid body. A stalk may be present. The skeleton contains regular (equiangular and equiradiate) or subregular triactines and tetractines. Tetractines are less abundant than triactines, sometimes even rare, but they always have needle-like apical actines. Diactines may be added. The aquiferous system is asconoid.
