Harris (1983) reported two varieties of this species from the nearby San Rafael Swell: Astragalus lentiginosus var. araneosus (E. Sheld.) Barneby and Astragalus lentiginosus var. palans (M.E. Jones) M.E. Jones. Both of these varieties are accepted in both Barneby (1964) and Welsh (2006) however, we were unable to determine our collection to variety as this specimen was vegetative.
