Water mites of the genus Sperchon Kramer (Acari: Hydrachnidia: Sperchontidae) from Turkey, with description of two new species Author Esen, Yunus Author Pešić, Vladimir Author Erman, Orhan text Zootaxa 2010 2514 35 46 journal article 10.5281/zenodo.196102 815c8797-25b5-4277-b5bf-adb498c67aab 1175-5326 196102 Sperchon ( Hispidosperchon ) senguni Özkan, 1982 Records from Turkey : Erzurum Province—“ Sperchon ( Scutosperchon ) senguni ” Özkan (1982, 1989). Remarks. This species has not been recorded since the first description that was based on a single male from Erzurum Province (Özkan 1982, 1989). In the orginal description, Özkan compared Sperchon senguni with S. clupeifer , probably due to the presence of a dorsal shield in the male of both species. However he obviously overlooked in combination with the presence of a large dorsal shield in male, the similarity in palp morphology (palp stout, with inflated P-2 and P-3 distal margins forming strongly developed sheaths flanking base of P-4) with the species from the denticulatus species group. Due to a relatively slender palp Sperchon senguni resembles S. hibernicus Halbert, 1944. Özkan did not mention the presence of a ventral plate between the genital region and posterior margin of the idiosoma, but it is possible that small postgenital platelet (characteristic for S. hibernicus ) escaped to the attention of Özkan. The holotype of Sperchon senguni needs to be examined to clarify its taxonomic state. Distribution: Turkey (Erzurum Province).
