Etymology
. The name
Orostylis
is derived from the Latin “os” (mouth), and “stylis” (stylet). The name refers to the fact that the male copulatory apparatus connects to the mouth in the
type
species.
Diagnosis
. Anterior-facing, cylindrical pharynx and sclerotised stylet in the anterior part of the body. Male genital opening in the oral cavity. Single ovary and vitellarium (
O. timucuorum
sp. nov.
might have two vitellaria). No other female genital structures. Testes paired or unpaired. No visible connection between the female genital system and the environment, except possibly in
O. timucuorum
sp. nov.
