"Habitat in Jamaica." RCN: 2146. Lectotype (Porter in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 90. 1993): [icon] "Aceri aut paliuro affinis arbor, caudice non ramoso foliis sorbi sylvestris, floribus pentapetalis racemosis speciosis purpureis, fructu sicco tribus membranulis extantibus alato" in Sloane, Voy. Jamaica 2: 28, t. 171. 1725. Generitype of Spathelia Linnaeus , nom. cons. Current name: Spathelia simplex L. ( Rutaceae ). Note: Spathalea Linnaeus (1760) was published without a description and is therefore not validly published under Art. 42.1. The name was validated in 1762, as Spathelia , and is a conserved name. Although some authors (e.g. Fawcett & Rendle, Fl. Jamaica 4: 193. 1920) have taken up Spathalea sorbifolia , this is incorrect.
