Comment.
Plinthisus minutissimus
is a very small species which was observed to live inside nests of
Formica rufa
Linnaeus, 1758
and
F. lugubris
Zetterstedt, 1838
(=
F. congerens
Nylander, 1846
) (
PUTON 1878
). However,
PÉRICART (1998)
mentions that he always collected this species from mosses. The examined specimen belongs to the rare macropterous form. This species has a wide distribution range in southern Europe (
Austria
,
Bosnia and Herzegovina
,
Croatia
,
France
,
Germany
,
Greece
(Corfu and
Crete
as well),
Italy
, Macedonia,
Portugal
,
Romania
,
Spain
, and
Switzerland
) and North Africa (
Algeria
,
Morocco
, and
Tunisia
) (
PÉRICART1998
). It is distinguished from other species of its subgenus by its relatively small size, shiny dorsum and castaneous coloration (

) (
PÉRICART 1998
).
