Current status.
New synonym of
Cassida concha
Solsky, 1872
.
Remarks.
Cassida juglans
remained since its description rather enigmatic as
Gressitt (1942)
compared it to
C. nigriventris
Boheman, 1854
, probably mainly because of combination of uniformly pale yellow dorsum and black ventral side, and later transferred the species to subgenus
Taiwana
Spaeth, 1913 (
Gressitt 1952
).
Chen
et al.
(1986)
probably merely followed the original description as they retained
C. juglans
in
Taiwana
while the
holotype
lacks features typical for
Taiwania
such as transparent explanate margin with honeycomb structure. The
holotype
of
C. juglans
is conspecific with
C. concha
and is synonymized with it here.
The species was recorded only once since is description from
Korea
(
An
et al.
1985
).
Cho & Borowiec (2014)
noted that the record most likely belong to a different species, however, they were not able to locate the original voucher specimen(s).
Gressitt (1942)
stated that the
holotype
was collected on ‘
May 6, 1936
’ while the specimen bears date
6th January 1936
what is probably result of an error as all other characters and data are in accordance with the primary description.
