Description.
Adult (
Figs 20
,
21
). Wingspan 15.0–16.0 mm. Head greyish, frons slightly lighter, off-white; labial palpus upcurved, segment 2 black, with wide white medial belt and white narrow apical ring, upper and outer surface white, underside with moderate groove, segment 3 black with whitish basal belt and white apex; antannae black, grey ringed; thorax and tegulae grey mottled with black; forewing gradually covered with grey black-tipped scales and mottled with brown, three black spots with light brown streaks between them under costal margin from it base to half length, two diffuse black spots in middle at basal 1/4 and three indistinct spots in cell, cilia grey black-tipped; hindwing light grey.
Male genitalia (
Fig. 47
): Uncus slightly longer than broad on base, narrowed apically, apex rounded; gnathos slender, sickle-shaped, pointed; tegumen moderately long, anteromedial emargination broader than long, rounded, extending to 1/3 length of tegumen; valva moderately slender, nearly of equal width but slightly narrowed in middle, apex weakly broadened with distinct medial corner, top pointed, not extending over the top of uncus; sacculus stout, slightly shorter than half length of valva and broader that one, narrowed after half length and turned inwards, apex pointed, separated from vincular process by deep and broad gap; vinculum narrow, posterior margin with short medial emargination, vincular process digitate, twice longer than broad, about as long as a sacculus, covered with short setae in apical part, separated by deep, narrow incision; saccus moderately broad, triangular, apex abruptly cut, far extending beyond the top of pedunuculus; caecum slightly swollen, distal portion of phallus narrowed towards rounded apex, apical arm with well developed down curved process, lamina well developed.
Female genitalia (
Fig. 60
): Papilla analis ovate, covered with short setae; apophyses posteriores in 4.5 times longer than segment VIII; sternite VIII distinctly longer than broad, posterior 1/3 trapezoidal, subgenital plate densely covered with microtrichia, far extending antriorely beyond the anterior margin of segment VIII, anteromedial corners rounded, ventromedial depresion broadly rounded, subostial sclerite crescent-form, nearly joined ventromedially, ostium opening indistinct; apophyses anteriores one half length of segment VIII, slender; antrum tubular, evenly sclerotized; ductus bursae short and broad; corpus bursae large, globular, as long as a ductus bursae; basal plate of signum rounded, with small teeth, signum hook stout, short with few teeth at base.
Remarks.
The species is characterized externally by nearly uniformly greyish dark forewing with indistict black dots and poorly expressed light brown streaks. It may be confused with
K.
(
E.
)
centrica
sp. n.
, but the head of latter is light, nearly white and brown pattern along costal margin is well developed. The differences from
K.
(
E.
)
yadongensis
sp. n.
see under that species. The male genitalia are clearly recognizable by stout, long and broad sacculus, prolonged vincular processes, the shape of the valva and the saccus. The female genitalia resemble those of
K.
(
E.
)
yadongensis
sp. n.
by the subgenital plate strongly extending anteriorely with rounded anteromedial corners, but the apophyses anteriores are much longer, the subostial sclerite is crescent-form rather than digitate, the antrum is narrower and the ductus bursae is longer (see also remarks under
K.
(
E.
)
yadongensis
sp. n.
).
Biology.
Host plant unknown. Adults have been collected in August at altitude of
2800 m
.
Distribution.
China
(Xizang).
Notes.
Four males of
K.
(
E.
)
montana
sp. n.
and seven males
K.
(
E.
)
medogia
sp. n.
have been collected in the same day and in the same locality. The association of the only female with
K.
(
E.
)
medogia
sp. n.
is justified by its superficial similarity with the uniformely coloured males of
K.
(
E.
)
medogia
sp. n.
, rather than with the males of
K.
(
E.
)
montana
sp. n.
, that well differ in the forewing divided into dark costal and light dosral parts.
Etymology.
The specific name is derived from the
type
locality.
