Diagnosis
. Body moderately big to large (TL
4.3–5.4 mm
), stout, covered with very long, erect setae. Male genitalia similar to those of
A. montana
, bursal sclerite consisting of long, paired rods, hooked in posterior portion. Easy to distinguish from other
Atopida
on the basis of external features: long, erect setation, and females with peculiar concavity of elytral base fitting basal portion of pronotum.
Redescription
. Male. Body moderately elongated, moderately big to large (TL
4.6–5.4 mm
), moderately convex. Body dark brown, head, pronotum, and scutellar shield slightly darker than elytra. Punctation on head and pronotum granulate, strong and dense, punctures doughnut-shaped, touching each other; punctation on elytra simple, punctures separated by 0.5–1.0× diameter of a puncture. Body covered with long, erect setae. Supraantennal ridges well-marked, elevated. Pronotum widest slightly before middle, sides rounded, anterolateral angles only subtly produced, posterolateral angles obtuse. Elytra without carinae, humeri well-marked. Punctation of elytra coarser, punctures separated by 0.3× diameter of a puncture, basal portion of elytra with concavity fitting base of pronotum. Ventrite 5 triangular, with deep, subtriangular emargination at apex. Ventrites 3 and 4 with paired setal patches forming long transverse stripes close to posterior margins of segments. Remarks.
Broun (1921)
noted his specimen was apterous and had peculiar structure of elytral base; the
holotype
was found in decaying leaves on the ground (
Broun 1921
).
