Description
(Polish specimen): Head with eyebridge of 3 facet rows; distance between eyes 4.5–5 facet diameters; a single row postocular bristles. Antenna with scape, pedicel and 14 flagellomeres; absolute length of antennomeres: 0.048-0.048-0.054-0.052-0.048-0.048-0.048-0.048-0.048-0.046-0.042-0.032-0.030-0.024-

; relative length 24-24-27-26-24-24-24-24-24-23-
21-16-15-12
-11-13. Flagellomeres 5–11 with a pair of digitiform curved ascoids in the distal third. Palpus: absolute segment length 0.056-0.070-
0.080-0.144 mm
; relative length 28- 35-40-72.
Wing 3.06 times longer than wide; length
1.89 mm
, width

.
Male terminalia with hypandrium thin with short median extension (
Fig. 43
). Gonocoxites
2x
longer than the apical width, 2 short setae in the basal half, a longer one at about middle, the longest near the apical end of the gonocoxite is 3-4 times longer than the more basal setae. Condyles shorter than gonocoxites, almost rectangular. Gonostylus more than
2x
longer than the gonocoxite, evenly bent.

T. nigricauda
43 hypandrium, gonopods, aedeagus, 44 aedeagus ventral view; 45 variability of the ventral distiphallus sclerite in England, Poland, North- and South Germany (left to right?); 46
T. goncalvesi
genitalia ventral view; 47
T. andradei
hypandrium, gonopods, aedeagus; 48–49
T. arcuata
(holotype) 48 hypandrium, gonopods, aedeagus, 49 epandrium and epandrial processes, oblique view.
Ventral bridge of parameres with large oval lobes adnate in the midst, extending to about middle of gonocoxite. The median inner prolongation is not clearly identifyable. Aedeagus dorsoventrally flat, basiphallus widened, medially with stronger sclerotization. Ventral lobe of the basiphallus split, slightly asymmetrical with one arm connected to the distiphallus, the other arm with a short tip. The dorsal lobe of the basiphallus straight broad and symmetric; without an apical cross sclerite (
Fig. 44
).
Epandrium elongate rhomboid; epandrial processes almost straight with 8 distally frazzled retinacula. Hypoproct oval, microsetose.
Distribution
: Specimens collected along lowland rivers and streams in Northern and Central Europe.
Remarks
: Eyebridge of Polish specimen with 2 cross lines of 4 facet rows; wing length by width 2.98–3.20; distance between eyes 3.5–4 facet diameters. Wing length 1.65 (Taubergiessen) to
2.07 mm
(GB
Norfolk
). British specimen with 9 retinacula (3 short, 6 long), specimen from the Taubergiessen with 8 retinacula (3 short, 5 long). Variability of genitalia is minor. There is some variation in the shape of the ventral distiphallus sclerite (
Fig. 45
) but differences are too small to distinguish between species.
