Redescription. Head : Face concave in lateral view. Antennal groove present, often as deep as first flagellomere. First flagellomere round to oval, rounded at apex. Palpus flattened, oval, not widened apically. Thorax : One postpronotal, 2 notopleural, and usually 2 pairs of scutellar setae present. Wing : Cell r4+5 apically narrowed or closed, sometimes with short petiole. Cell bcu with distinct posteroapical lobe. Veins, including R1, bare. Abdomen : Tergite 6 of female about 0.1 times as long as other abdominal tergites. Male terminalia : Epandrium oval; lateral surstylus articulated to epandrium, not bearing prensisetae; medial surstylus posteriorly fused with lateral surstylus, sometimes setulose and bearing prensisetae. Hypandrium Ushaped, asymmetrical. Two campanulate parameres clearly visible. Phallus mostly bare. Glans about 0.2 times as long as phallus, bearing several sclerotized hook-like appendages. Female terminalia : Aculeus long and narrow. Three spermathecae present, 2 with common duct. Genera in Israel : Physiphora Fallén , Timia Wiedemann and Ulidia Meigen.
