Euplocania caliensis
n. sp.
(
Figs 9
–20)
Diagnosis.
Belonging in species group “A”, in the classification of
García Aldrete
et al
. (2013)
. Differing from
E. danubiana
n. sp.
, described below, in that the side sclerites of the hypandrium are much smaller than in the latter, the central sclerite of the hypandrium is almost rectangular (
Fig. 13
), lacking the foliate, setose projections of the latter, the side struts and external parameres of the phallosome are much slender, and in the structure of the ninth female sternum (compare
Figs 14
and
38
in
this paper).
Male. Color
(in 80% ethanol). Body creamy, with brown areas as indicated below. Compound eyes black, ocelli hyaline, with ochre centripetal crescents (
Fig. 11
). A brown band from each compound eye to epistomal sulcus, enclosing the antennal fossae, each with a slender band to ocellar group. Vertex with one brown area next each compound eye and epicranial sulcus. Postclypeus with brown longitudinal bands as illustrated, antero-lateral corners creamy, as well as anteclypeus. Genae dark brown. Antennae: scape and pedicel brown; flagellomeres creamy white. Mx 1–3 creamy white; Mx4 creamy white, with apical third brown. Tergal lobes of meso- and metathorax brown. Mesothoracic pleura dark brown, with a white band next the tergal lobes; metathoracic pleura white. Legs: coxa and trochanter of foreleg brown; coxa and trochanter of hindleg creamy; femur of fore- and middle legs with proximal half brown and distal half creamy; femur of hindleg creamy; tibia of all legs brown, distally more pigmented; tarsomere 1 of all legs brown, and tarsomeres 2–3 of all legs dark brown. Wings hyaline, with a dark brown band along margin, from cell R2+3; vein R2+3 with a brown spot at wing margin; pterostigma dark brown throughout, except proximally; veins brown. Hindwings with a brown marginal band from R4+5 to wing base. Abdomen whitish with ochre spots. Hypandrium dark brown, epiproct and paraprocts pale brown.
Morphology
. As in diagnosis, plus the following: Head: H/MxW: 1.48; compound eyes not reaching the level of vertex, this obtusely concave (
Fig. 11
) H/d: 2.38; IO/MxW: 0.69. Outer cusp of lacinial tip broad, with six denticles. Mx4/Mx2: 1.27. Forewing M 4-branched (
Fig. 9
): L/W: 2.62. Pterostigma projected in the middle towards Rs; lp/wp: 3.73, areola postica tall, slanted posteriorly: al/ah: 1.99. Hindwings (
Fig. 10
): l/w: 2.89. Hypandrium (
Fig. 13
), of three pieces, the central one large, almost rectangular, with setae as illustrated, with two long, slender projections in the middle, close together, distally pointed; side sclerites smaller than the central one, broadly triangular, setose. Phallosome (
Fig. 14
) with side struts Y-shaped; external parameres slender, bearing pores distally and ending in a curved hook; two pairs of endophallic sclerites, the anterior pair posteriorly concave, each with two short, pointed projections, the mesal pair long, slender, rounded proximally and distally acuminate, associated posteriorly with a W shaped transverse sclerite. Paraprocts robust, rounded posteriorly (
Fig. 12
), with a distal field of setae, and a macroseta near the sensory field, this with 32–36 trichobothria on basal rosettes. Epiproct (
Fig. 12
) broadly semicircular, with a macroseta on each side, three mesal seta next anterior border, and a field of microsetae next posterior border, this with a row of short setae.
