[New
lectotype
designation]
Centris atripes
lectotype
(♂,
Figs 21–24
): There is no indication from the original description that only a single specimen was seen by Mocsáry. Therefore a single male labeled “
Mexico
[printed]”, “658/50”, “23”, “87.” [green label], “
C
. ♂ /
atripes
/ det.
Friese 1898
[printed] / Mocs.” is here designated as the
lectotype
. There is no precise locality information from the specimen labels, but
Mocsáry (1899)
indicated that the specimen was collected from “Praesidio” or Presidio near Mazatlán in Sinaloa,
Mexico
, where Alphonse Forrer (
1836–1899
) collected and distributed many insects (
Rasmussen 2012
). The accession book at HNHM confirms that the specimens came to HNHM in 1883 from Forrer. The species was correctly interpreted by
Snelling (1974
,
1984
) and
Moure
et al
. (2007)
.
