FIGURE 22. Habtus of Vaejovis darwini holotype (♂): a— dorsal view; b— ventral view. Scale bar = 1 cm. Diagnosis (modified from Santibáñez-López & Francke, 2010 ): Small scorpions, adults 23–26 mm long (Fig: 22-a, b). Carapace (Fig: 13-d), shorter than metasomal segment V (Carapace L/MS-V 0.85±0.01 [0.86]), longer than the femur (Carapace L/Femur L 1.19±0.08 [1.3]); with anterior margin slightly concave. Mesosomal tergite VII with two median carinae, noticeably granular; beginning on second third of segment, composed by a single line of granules. Pectinal teeth 17–17 [15–16]; metasomal sternite V on males with a diffuse posterior, whitish patch almost absent; sternite VII with a pair of feeble carinae only present on medial third of segment and 11–12 setae. Metasomal segment I slightly wider than long, almost square in dorsal view (MSI L/ W 0.83 ±0.02 [0.85]); intercarinal spaces on segments I–IV sparsely granular; segment V thin, conspicuously longer than wide (MS-V L/ W 2.5 ±0.24 [2.81]) and as wide as deep (W/D 1±0.07 [1]). Vesicle long and rounded (Fig: 14-d) (L/ W 1.83 ±0.03 [1.5]) and broad, slightly wider than deep (W/D 1.19± 0.03 [1.33]), ventrally with two light-colored longitudinal median bands, conspicuously depressed; vesicle with ventral surface granular; dorsal surface flat with a tiny circle on posterior half representing the vesicular gland. Pedipalp femur (Fig: 15-d) more than three times longer than wide on males, slightly shorter on females (L/ W 3.29 ±0.04 [2.72]); wider than deep (W/D 1.4±0.2 [1.37]). Pedipalp patella (Fig: 16-d) more than three times longer than wide in both sexes (L/ W 3.3 ±0.03 [3.16]); wider than deep (W/D 1.36 ±0.14 [1.2]), with dorsointernal carina granulated. Pedipalp chela manus two times longer than wide (Fig: 17, 18-d)(L/ W 1.97 ±0.11 [2.06]), slightly deeper than wide (W/D 0.94±0.06 [0.88]); the dorsal prosubmedian carina granulated; fixed finger shorter than chela manus (CM L/FF 1.25±0.06 [1.2]). Dentate margins of fingers straight. Hemispermatophore (Fig: 19-d): Lamelliform (measurements: TL 2.5; LL 1.7; W 0.4 ); capsular region with median lobe sclerotized, two basal hooks lobed. Full morphometric variation is given in tables 13 and 14. Setae variation is given in tables 9–12. Distribution. Oaxaca , México . This species is known only from the type locality ( Figure 4 ). Natural history. This species inhabits the rocky slopes along a disturbed riparian community at 845 m elevation.
