New synonymy (by F. Parker and T. Griswold). County records: Cheboygan, Kalamazoo, Livingston, Mason, Missaukee. Notes. Mitchell (1962) did not include S . coarctatus in his treatment of the eastern species. The holotype female, deposited at NMNH, is from Kansas . The holotype female of S . vernalis , also deposited at NMNH, is from North Carolina . This species has been recorded as a cleptoparasite of Heriades carinata Cresson (see Sheffield et al. 2008 ). It was reared from Heriades carinata nests in Michigan by Matthews (1965 as vernalis ) , but also from Hoplitis ( Proteriades ) shoshone (Parker) in Nevada ( Parker 1976 ) , suggesting a broad host range.
