Diagnosis.
Eulissus chalybaeus
may be recognized among other southern South American
Xantholinini
by its body large and robust, the head, pronotum, elytra and abdomen of metallic color (blue, green or violet) and the pronotal disc impunctate except near margins. Length
28–35 mm
.
Distribution.

Mexico

Argentina

Bionomics.
This species has been recorded mainly from dung, traps baited with human feces and detritus of
Atta mexicana
(Formicidae)
(
Márquez & Asiain 2002
;
Navarrete-Heredia
et al.
2002
).
Eulissus chalybaeus
has been also reported as an active predator of dung-beetles (
Young 2011
; Noriega & Navarrete-Heredia 2012).
