The
uncusella
-group
Diagnostic characters.
This group is characterized by the vinculum ventrocaudal margin with a medial process, the uncus with lobate base separated by membrane, the uncus lobes small, basal section slightly expanded, membraneous, distal section digitate or large and moderate in width, the sclerite usually present between uncus lobes, the folded juxta reflexed anteriorly along inner surface of the vinculum, grooved in dorsal midline, the tubular aedeagus, and the bulbus ejaculatorius with subdistal section expanded and curved in the male genitalia; the ductus bursae usually narrow, the colliculum comprising a pair of processes arising from an apodeme, or narrowly joined at posterior margin of the corpus bursae, and a narrow second ring partially extending forward or downward to form a process of various shape on the ventral surface in the female genitalia.
Remarks
: Eight species are included in this group in
China
, which can be separated into two complexes: The
elongata
-complex and the
uncusella
-complex.
The
elongata
-complex includes
E. sinica
(Gaedike, 1984)
,
E. conchata
sp. nov.
and
E. elongata
sp. nov.
, characterized by having a very long medial process on the vinculum ventrocaudal margin, the small uncus lobes, the elongate aedeagus, and the bulbus ejaculatorius no more than 3.0× the length of the aedeagus in the male genitalia.
The
uncusella
-complex includes
E. cornuta
sp. nov.
,
E. robustispina
sp. nov.
,
E. uncusella
sp. nov.
,
E. hendrixella
Robinson, 2008
and
E. semicircularis
sp. nov.
, characterized by the antennal flagellum variegated, the bicolored forewing darker in distal section; the medial process on the vinculum ventrocaudal margin about half depth of the vinculum, the presence of the sclerite between the uncus lobes, the short aedeagus, and the bulbus ejaculatorius>3.0× and <5.0× length of the aedeagus in the male genitalia.
Many Sundaland species are similar to members of this group by having an obvious ventrocaudal medial process and a folded juxta reflexed anteriorly along inner surface of the vinculum.
Edosa berryella
Robinson, 2008
,
E. driscollella
Robinson, 2008
,
E. broonzyella
Robinson, 2008
,
E. chenierella
Robinson, 2008
,
E. buddyguyella
Robinson 2008
, and
E. chrisreaella
Robinson, 2008
are close to members of the
elongata
-complex by having an elongate and gently curved aedeagus and a much elongate ventrocaudal medial process. The
jordanella
-group in Robinson (2008) shares a short aedeagus and the ventrocaudal medial process about half the length of the vinculum with
uncusella
-complex. However, the structures of the uncus lobes and the valva of these Sundaland species are differently shaped from those of the Chinese species. Thus we do not include them in this group.
