Supplementary description.
Male genitalia. Male.
LB: 2.07–2.18 (mean, 2.13). LR: 0.43–0.52 (mean, 0.50). LP: 0.66–0.69 (mean, 0.68). N = 4 for all measurements. Spiculum gastrale (sternite IX;
Fig. 93
) relatively robust, evidently longer than the penis or its apodeme, bent leftward. Tegmen (
Fig. 92
) with apodeme short and slender, nearly 0.4 times as long as the diameter of the tegminal ring, weakly widened toward the apex. Penis (
Figs. 89–91
) long and slender, relatively thick in profile, slightly bent upward in the apical 1/3; sides subparallel from the base to basal 2/3, then gradually convergent apically; apical projection (
Fig. 88
) rounded at apex. Basal part of the endophallus (
Fig. 89
) with a pair of plate-like sclerites, numerous moderately dense minute spicules and numbers of smaller plate-like sclerites.

Fig. 95
) robust, nearly four times longer than styli; styli apicolaterally inserted, long and slender, nearly five times longer than wide. Spermatheca (
Fig. 96
) with cornu slender, strongly curved and slightly attenuate; collum slightly convex; ramus indistinct; insertions of the duct and gland relatively close to each other.

,

;

(introduced).
Biological notes
. This species occurs on
Polygonum thunbergii
Sieb. et Zucc.
,
Persicaria perfoliata
(L.) H. Gross (
Polygonaceae
) (Korotyaev, 2006). The weevil was introduced from
China
to the
United States
in 2004 as a biocontrol agent against the Asian native vine
P. perfoliata
(Colpetzer et al. 2004; Frye et al. 2010). This insect feeds on
P. perfoliata
leaves as an adult, chewing characteristic small round holes, and its larvae develop internally in the plant stems (Hough-Goldstein & LaCoss, 2012).
Remarks.
The species is very close to
Rh. rhytidosomoides
in having a much smaller body than the other
Rhinoncomimus
species, and keel-like convex elytral intervals bearing a row of dense acute granules. It can be distinguished by its simple protibia lacking a mucro, and stout tarsi with segment III more than twice as wide as segment II.
