One male paratype : Mexico , Oaxaca, Sierra de Juárez, Hwy. 175, 2.9 km S. La Esperanza, 4900’, cloud forest, at UV light, July 2, 1989 , J. Rifkind, coll. Paratype deposited in JNRC . Color: dark brown; elytra with an iridescent luster, reflecting greenish and purple tints in certain lights; antennomeres 1–2 (ventrally) and 10–11, labial palpi, mesosternum, coxae and proximal 3/4 of femora, testaceous. Head sparsely, finely punctate and sparsely set with mostly erect, pale, medium length setae. Pronotum with two pairs of shallow lateral foveae, integument with punctures more coarse than on head, though still shallow and rather indistinct, posterior 1/2 transversely, shallowly rugose, vestiture as on head. Elytra bearing a few coarse punctures at anterior and some scattered, finer punctures laterally, integument coarsely but shallowly punctate and indistinctly roughened at posterior 1/ 4, surface very sparsely clothed with suberect and erect, brownish, medium length, fine setae. Metasternum smooth, sparsely clothed with very fine, pale erect, medium length setae. Abdomen shining, smooth, bearing a few scattered, fine pale setae; visible ventrite 5 obliquely convergent laterally, broadly, transversely truncate at apex; last ventrite small, arcuate, apex broadly rounded; last tergite more elongate than terminal ventrite; apical margin rounded. Length: 7.25 mm . Variation . The male paratype has the terminal abdominal ventrite arcuately convergent laterally and the apex arcuately emarginate. Etymology . The specific epithet refers to La Esperanza, a town in the Sierra de Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico that is nearest the type locality.
