Mouth subterminal, premaxilla much longer than dentary; dentigerous tooth plates in both premaxilla and dentary. Dorsal fin with I,6, pectoral fin with I,8-10, pelvic fin with 7 and anal fin with 17- 19 rays. Ground color dark-brown dorsally, whitish ventrally; two dark-brown longitudinal bands, with irregular borders, one along lateral line to median caudal-fin rays and another on dorsum. Sorubim lima is a non-native species from the upper rio Paraná , and its occurrence can be associated with the filling of the Itaipu Reservoir and the consequent inundation of the Sete Quedas Falls.
