Locality of
Arcynopteryx polaris
Klapálek, 1912
and
Pictetiella asiatica
Zwick & Levanidova, 1971
in Jilin Province of northeastern China.
Remarks.
Body (
Figs. 16
,
17
) length ca.
17 mm
(excluding antennae and cerci). The male specimen of
A. polaris
studied herein is macropterous, unlike most other known brachypterous males as stated by
Judson & Nelson (2012)
. The following characters of the Chinese male specimen are identical with those of Russian and Mongolian specimens depicted by
Teslenko & Zhiltzova (2009)
and
Judson & Nelson (2012)
: the color pattern of head and pronotum; the slender and finger-shaped hemitergal lobes; the two sclerotized bands near the median slit between hemitergal lobes; the back-pointed, long and needle-like epiproct. It is worth noting that many historical specimens of
A. polaris
were misidentifed as
A. altaica
Zapekina-Dulkeit, 1957
and finally revised by
Zhiltzova (1995)
.
Teslenko (2006)
reported
A. polaris
from the “East-Manchurian Mountains”, however, the accurate locality is not specified and “Manchuria” is not a recognized toponym now. In the recent generic checklist of
Chen & Du (2018)
and the species catalogue of
Yang & Li (2018)
,
Arcynopteryx
was not included.
