Redescription.
Length
3.30–4.10 mm
(
Fig. 7–10
). Integument blackish except for brownish apical half of rostrum, antennae, and legs; on dorsum, covered with elongate subrectangular scales and wide subelliptical scales; on elytra elongate scales mostly reddish brown and at sides partly whitish; on femora and tibiae white and brown scales intermixed; wide scales white and more abundant at base and in apical half of odd interstriae. Rostrum (
Fig. 131–134
) thin, especially in female, moderately long (Rl/Rw
4.07–4.23 in
male, 4.80–5.00 in female; Rl/Pl
0.90– 1.05 in
male, 1.00–
1.10 in
female), in dorsal view with sides slightly convergent from base to apex. Antennal funicle 7-segmented. Eyes slightly prominent. Pronotum transverse (Pw/Pl 1.19–1.40), with subparallel sides in basal half, widest in basal third. Elytra oblong oval, distinctly wider than pronotum (El/Ew
1.45–1.54 in
female; Ew/Pw 1.41– 1.51), with rectilinear sides and widest in basal half, convex. Femora (
Fig. 247–248
), especially metafemora, with distinct tooth; profemora in male with indistinct fringe of white scales. Tibiae (
Fig. 309
) without sexual characters. Third tarsomere distinctly wider than second tarsomere. Claws with robust medial teeth, as long as half of claw. Male genitalia: body of penis (
Fig. 366
) short, in dorsal view almost parallel at sides, gradually narrowing toward apex with subacute tip (
Fig. 399
), in lateral view strongly curved at a right angle toward apex. Female genitalia: spermatheca (
Fig. 433
) with long ramus gradually narrowing at sides, distinct collum, robust nodulus and robust cornu gradually narrowing to apex; spiculum ventrale (
Fig. 459
) with arms joined in basal third, then slightly divergent and parallel-sided to apex.
Remarks and comparative notes.
The habitus of this species is very peculiar, although it lacks unique character states. It is unclear to which other Palearctic species
T. uralensis
is more closely related.
Biology.
This species was collected on
Caragana frutex
(L.) K. Koch (Karasjov 1994). We have studied some specimens collected on
C. sinica
(Buc’hoz) Rehder.
Distribution.
This species, distributed in north-eastern Europe, Siberia and
Afghanistan
, was already reported from northern
China
(BEI HEB).
