Diagnosis.
This species is most similar to
L
.
delta
sp. nov.
in the having the postocellar setae minute (
Figs. 7A
,
8M
), the mesonotum and scutellum mostly brownish yellow (
Figs. 7B
,
8N
), the pleura lacking stripe above (
Figs. 7C
,
8O
), and the wing mostly clouded (
Figs. 3D
,
4E
), but can be distinguished from the latter in having the epandrium lacking pubescence and seta (
Fig. 36A
); surstylus caudally acute, lacking pubescence, with setae along caudal margin only (
Fig. 36A
); paramere slender, basally acute (
Fig. 36C
); aedeagus distally slightly curved ventrad, laterally with a long, apically narrow process (
Fig. 36D
).
There is intraspecific variation in abdominal tergite colour pattern in this species (
Figs. 11J–L
,
12A–D
). This species is comprised of a large proportion of “shortened” (
Figs. 11J–L
,
12A
) and a few “normal” specimens (
Fig. 12B
), but there is no other conspicuous intraspecific morphological variation between these two kinds of specimens. Therefore, all the specimens were identified as a single new species to avoid further confusion.
Description.
Ocellar triangle dark brown, with ca. 2 or 3 setae above ocellar setae. Frons brownish (
Fig. 8M
). Orb
3
and Orb
2
parallel (
Fig. 8M
). Pedicel brownish yellow; first flagellomere yellow (
Fig. 8M
). Clypeus entirely brownish. Palpus brownish yellow (
Fig. 8M
). Postpronotal lobe brownish yellow (
Fig. 8O
). Acrostichal setulae in ca. 14–16 irregular rows (
Fig. 8N
). Katepisternum and mesopleuron mostly yellow to dark yellow (
Fig. 8O
). Wing (
Fig. 4E
): mostly clouded; costal vein between R
2+3
and R
4+5
distally with ca. 5–7 peg-like spinules on ventral surface; R
4+5
and M
1
slightly convergent distally; halter mostly yellow, with a dark yellow to dark brown patch at knob (
Fig. 8O
). Abdominal tergites dark brown to black, 2nd tergite usually yellow medially and laterally, 3rd tergite usually yellow anteriorly and laterally, entirely setigerous even in the “shortened” specimens (
Figs. 11J–L
,
12A, B
), 4th tergite usually yellow anteriorly (
Figs. 11J–L
,
12A–D
). Male terminalia: Cercus lacking pubescence (
Fig. 36A
). Paramere narrow apically, with ca. 7 sensilla distally (
Fig. 36C
).
