Guyana , Region IX , Katu Wao River nr. Kusad Mts , large vegetated marsh, 2°49.793ʹ N , 59°48.361ʹ W . Diagnosis. This species differs from all others in the species-group in the shape of the male genitalia. The median lobe in lateral aspect is broad with the apex a narrow, elongate, apically narrowly rounded lobe ( Fig. 15 ). In ventral aspect, the lobe is very broad medially, thereafter narrowed to a narrow, apically pointed apex ( Fig. 16 ). The lateral lobes are unique in the species-group, with the dorsal ramus apically narrow in both lateral and ventral aspects ( Figs. 16, 17 ), and the ventral ramus apically rounded in both ventral and dorsal aspects ( Figs. 16, 17 ). Specimens are pale with the head and pronotum evenly yellow and the elytra evenly pale brown to orange. Description. Measurements: TL = 1.4 mm , GW = 0.9–1.0 mm, HW = 0.5–0.6 mm , EW = 0.2 mm , TL/GW = 1.5, HW/EW = 2.2. Coloration: Head and pronotum evenly yellow. Elytron pale brown to orange. Head appendages, legs, and ventral surfaces yellow to yellow-orange, darker on surface of metacoxa and abdomen. Male genitalia: Male median lobe in lateral aspect short and broad, ventrally broadly rounded, apex constricted to an elongate, apically narrowly rounded lobe ( Fig. 15 ). Median lobe in ventral aspect broad, medially constricted, apically narrowly constricted, apex terminating in 2 short, spinous processes ( Fig. 16 ). Lateral lobe in lateral aspect basally broad, apically with 2 long rami, ventral ramus apically broadly rounded, dorsal ramus slender, apically narrowly rounded ( Fig. 17 ); in ventral aspect slender, sinuate, apices of rami rounded ( Fig. 16 ). Variation. There is very little variation in color across the specimens examined. Etymology. This species is named hardyae in honor of Dr. Susanne H. Hardy, DO. Distribution. This species is known from several lowland localities in Venezuela and southwestern Guyana ( Fig. 70 ). Habitat. Specimens were collected from a “large vegetated marsh,” “margins of vegetated creek,” “margins of vegetated pond,” “muddy margins of vegetated farm ponds,” “marshy area,” “large side pools of large river,” “sandy side-pool in floodplain,” “marsh,” “muddy creek,” and “pools along road.” Type Material.
