Parapseudes latifrons : Lang 1966: 553 (in part). Parapseudes cf. latifrons : Larsen 2005: 94 . Parapseudes algicola : Guţu 2008b: 53 . Remarks. Lang (1966) transferred A. algicola to P arapseudes Sars, 1882 and synonymized this species and other congeners reported from various regions ( e.g. , Mediterranean, North and South Atlantic, and North Pacific) with Parapseudes latifrons ( Grube, 1864 ) that was described from the island of Lošinj in the Adriatic Sea. Larsen & Shimomura (2008) questioned the validity of Lang’s (1966) synonymising and stated that “such cosmopolitan distribution is unlikely for a single species and closer examination of the literature also suggests that differences are present between several of the species” ( op. cit. : 9), but they refrained from reinstating Shiino’s species. It was formally reinstated as a valid species by Guţu (2008b) .
