Material examined. None. Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Florida), Gulf of Mexico , Caribbean Sea, Brazil (Bracken-Grissom & Felder 2014). Previous records. Ubatuba ( Costa et al . 2000 , as A. floridanus ; Mantelatto et al . 2016 , as A. cf. floridanus ); São Sebastião Island (Municipality of Ilhabela) ( Christoffersen 1979, as A. floridanus ); São Sebastião Channel ( Christoffersen 1979 , as A. floridanus ; Pires-Vanin et al . 1997 , as A. floridanus ); locality not mentioned ( Christoffersen 1982 ). Remarks. According to Bracken-Grissom & Felder (2014), the A. floridanus complex is composed of A. floridanus , A. roblesi Bracken-Grissom & Felder, 2014 , A. ulalae Bracken-Grissom & Felder, 2014 , A. hephaestus Bracken-Grissom & Felder, 2014 , and A. platycheirus Boone, 1927 . At least two species of the A. floridanus complex occur in Brazil : A. floridanus s.s. and A. platycheirus Boone, 1927 (Bracken-Grissom & Felder 2014). Previous records of A. floridanus from São Paulo may correspond to any of these species and must be treated with caution. This material is unavailable and, therefore, it could not be assigned to any of the species within the complex. In the collections of the Biota-FAPESP Program, we have obtained only specimens of A. platycheirus (see below). However, we rather not reject the possibility of the occurrence of A. floridanus s.s. until a broader morphological and genetic analysis is performed. Moreover, A. floridanus has been collected near the coast of São Paulo (Bracken-Grissom & Felder 2014).
