Ges. Naturf. Freunde Berlin 7: 32 (1816) Index Fungorum number: IF8188 Type species: Epicoccum nigrum Link, Mag. Ges. Naturf. Freunde Berlin 7: 32 (1816) . Notes: Epicoccum was introduced by Link (1816) with the type species E. nigrum . This genus has 89 accepted species in Species Fungorum (Wang et al. 2023) but, the molecular data of most species were unavailable in Genbank database. Epicoccum species are often found on various plant materials as pathogens, saprobes or endophytes ( Dzoyem et al. 2017 , Jayasiri et al. 2017 , Raza et al. 2019 ). The hyphomycetous anamorph of Epicoccum is characterized by having mono- to polyblastic, hyaline conidiogenous cells bearing globose to subglobose, brown, sometimes verruculose, dictyoconidia ( Seifert & Gams 2011 ); while the coelomycetous anamorph is described by having fusiform or naviculate to oblong, hyaline conidia in pycnidial conidiomata ( Chen et al. 2015 ). The sexual morph of Epicoccum is described by having conical globose to lenticular, ostiolate ascomata; branched, hyaline, cellular pseudoparaphyses; short-pedicellate, 8-spored asci, with an ocular chamber; cylindric-clavate ascospores with a gelatinous sheath ( Jayasiri et al. 2017 ). The phylogenetic placement of Epicoccum spp. is demonstrated in figure 7.
