( Figs. 15 , 37 , 56, 75, 93, 121, 139, 204–207) Amydetes fanestratus [ sic ] Viviani, 2011 ( nomen nudum ) Diagnosis . Fronto-clypeus with anterior margin 2/5 wider than distance between antennal sockets. Labrum strongly bilobate. Abdominal sterna VI and VII with lanterns almost as long as sterna length and with slightly wider than 3/4 sterna width. Pygidium with median lobe beveled, slightly longer than lateral lobe, as wide as 1/2 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe well developed. Colouration . ( Fig. 15 ) Integument brown. Prothorax generally with two maculae yellowish-brown on the sides, expansions pale yellow. Elytron with suture light-brown, at least at the anterior 1/2. Head . ( Figs. 37 , 56) Fronto-clypeus depressed up to antennal sockets, anterior margin 2/5 wider than distance between antennal sockets and slightly wider than distance between antennifers. Antenna with 31–35 antennomeres (n=3); antennomere III slightly longer than pedicel, flabellum ca. 3x longer than antennomere III. Labrum strongly bilobate. Maxillary palpomere IV 3x longer than III, slightly less than 1/3 longer than labial palpomere III. Thorax . (Figs. 75, 93) Pronotum with lateral margins slightly divergent posteriad, posterior angle weakly developed, acute and fairly straight down; setigerous punctures irregularly separeted 0.5–1.5x the diameter of a puncture. Hypomeron 2x longer than high. Scutellum subparallel-sided. Elytron slightly dehiscent, slightly wider subapically; marginal costa with anterior margin not projected. Mesosternum with posterior margin rounded. Abdomen . ( Figs. 121 , 139 , 204 –207) Abdominal sternum V with posterior margin straight. Abdominal sterna VI and VII with lanterns as long as sterna length and slightly wider than 3/4 sterna width. Abdominal sternum VIII with posterior margin straight or irregular. Pygidium with median lobe beveled, slightly longer than lateral lobe, as wide as 1/2 posterior margin width; indentation between lateral lobe and median lobe well developed; lateral lobe well developed, acuminate. Terminalia: Syntergite with anterior margin truncate, posterior asymmetric, bristles sparse and with variable size at lateral margins; suture between abdominal tergites IX and X indistinct. Abdominal sternum IX 2x longer than syntergite, slightly more than 2x longer than wide; wider at posterior 1/3; with lateral margins divergent posteriad, bristled at posterior 1/3; posterior margin rounded. Aedeagus: Phallobase asymmetric. Parameres basally constricted, close-set subapically, rounded apically. Phallum 1/3 longer than paramere, apex rounded, subparallel-sided. Ventral plate sclerotized and straight. Type-material. Holotype : BRAZIL . São Paulo : Pirassununga. S. Paulo. EECP – Noite, Schubart., male (MZSP). This species is named after the great biochemist and firefly collector Vadim Viviani, who has strongly promoted the study of the Lampyridae and other bioluminescent beetles in Brazil . Remarks. Amydetes vivianii sp. nov. resembles Amydetes caetite sp. nov. ( Fig. 10 ), A. lucernula sp. nov. ( Fig. 11 ) and A. marajoara sp. nov. ( Fig. 16 ). Differs from the two former by the characteristics pointed out in the Remarks sections for these species. It differs from A.marajoara sp. nov. by fronto-clypeus with anterior margin 2/ 5 wider than distance between antennal sockets ( 2x wider than distance between antennal sockets A.marajoara sp. nov. ), labrum bilobate (straight in A.marajoara sp. nov. ), and pygidium with median lobe beveled (rounded in A.marajoara sp. nov. )
