Saccoloma hieronymi
Schwartsb., Brittonia
74: 166. 2022
.
Range:—
Costa Rica
to
Bolivia
(CO, LP) and western
Brazil
.
Ecology:—
Common; terrestrial in humid forests;
700–2000 m
.
Notes:—
This higher-elevation representative of the species group around
Saccoloma inaequale
was elevated to species rank by
Rojas-Alvarado (2010)
under the name
S. nigrescens
.
Schwartsburd (2022)
restricted that name to plants from southeastern
Brazil
and proposed the new name
S. hieronymi
for the populations from
Costa Rica
to
Bolivia
. These had previously been called
S. inaequale
var.
caudatum
Hieron.
, but since the name
caudatum
is already occupied in
Saccoloma
, a new name was required.
