Lectotype (Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 70. 1993): [icon] " Gramen paniceum majus, spica simplici laevi, granis petiolis insidentibus" in Sloane, Voy. Jamaica 1: 107, t. 64, f. 2. 1707. - Typotype : Herb. Sloane 2: 7 ( BM-SL ) . Generitype of Olyra Linnaeus. Current name: Olyra latifolia L. ( Poaceae ). Note: Hitchcock (in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 12: 124. 1908) indicated Sloane's specimen (HS 2: 7, BM-SL) as the type. Despite its close association with the published illustration, Linnaeus did not see the material and it is not original material for the name. Subsequently, Hitchcock (in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 17: 269. 1913) referred to "the type specimen collected by Browne" but without indicating where it was located. Formal typification on Sloane's illustration was effected in Jarvis & al.
