Neotiphys : Smith et al ., 2010 , pp. 524, 556, figs. 15.124, 15.125, 15.334. Diagnosis. Larva : Character states of the subfamily Tiphyinae. Third coxal plate with transverse muscle attachment scar present. Excretory pore plate dumb-bell shaped with setae ps1 and ps2 nearly aligned with one another near midlength of plate at level of excretory pore; excretory pore borne on short projection. Adults (modified from Smith 1976 ): Character states of subfamily Tiphyinae. Fourth coxal plates with large, anteriorly convex projections covering insertions of fourth legs. Pedipalp with segments relatively short and stout and with tibia bearing a short, sessile, peg-like seta distomedially. Genital field bearing three pairs of acetabula. Males with genital acetabula relatively large and close together and borne on compact acetabular plates that surround gonopore, and do not extend laterally beyond posteromedial angles of fourth coxal plates; second leg with tibia lacking spatulate setae distoventrally; fourth leg with genu slightly expanded and bearing two spatulate or paddle-shaped setae distoventrally, tibia slightly expanded and bearing a long, thick, curved seta distodorsally. Females with genital acetabula relatively large and close together and borne on triangular acetabular plates, and with second and third acetabula on each side not forming a row near posterior edge of plate that is nearly at right angles to long axis of idiosoma. Type species. Tiphys pionoidellus Habeeb. Species included. Neotiphys pionoidellus (Habeeb) (eastern North America ), N. drepaniseta (Cook) (southcentral North America ), N. marionensis (Conroy) (western North America ). Distribution. North America . Discussion. Cook (1974a) treated Neotiphys as a subgenus of Pionopsis . Smith (1976) considered Neotiphys and Pionopsis to be separate genera and this treatment was followed by Smith & Cook (1991) , Smith et al . (2001 , 2010), and by us here.
