This species can be recognized by the unique elytral mycangium appearing as a distinct impressed area immediately adjacent to the scutellum on each elytron, its posterior margin distinctly raised; large size, pronotum from dorsal view appearing subquadrate (type 3); declivity steeply sloping, occupying apical 3/4 of elytra; and elytral disc flat and transverse. Similar species. Euwallacea luctuosus , E. sibsagaricus , E. subalpinus . Distribution. India (Arunachal Pradesh*, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal). Host plants. Recorded from Vatica ( Dipterocarpaceae ) and Macaranga ( Euphorbiaceae ) ( Maiti and Saha 2004 ). Remarks. Xyleborus tristis is here transferred to Heteroborips because of the distinct elytral mycangia adjacent to the scutellum on each elytron.
